RIS Prototype

A reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) is a promising technology that enables the reflection of wireless signals in desired directions, thereby improving communication quality and extending network coverage. RIS is particularly effective in dense urban environments, where line-of-sight propagation is limited, as well as in hard-to-reach areas such as underground passages. Among the key advantages of RIS are low power consumption and low cost.
In our laboratory, a RIS prototype for fourth-generation (4G) cellular communication systems has been developed, and its use in an existing cellular network has experimentally demonstrated up to a twofold increase in throughput. In addition, a new method for manufacturing broadband RIS elements using additive manufacturing technology has been developed, making it possible to reduce their production cost.
