WNL member Ilya Levitsky earns PhD Degree

Ilya Levitsky, the member of Wireless Networks Lab, has successfully defended his PhD thesis!

The thesis by Ilya Levitsky “Methods for Improving the Performance of Multi-Link Devices in Wi-Fi 7 Networks” focuses on a key innovation in Wi-Fi 7 technology – multi-link operation. This technology allows devices to connect to a Wi-Fi network via multiple frequency channels, such as in the 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz bands simultaneously. If these frequency channels are located close together, interference can occur between them, preventing high-speed data transmission. In his thesis, Ilya Levitsky describes a method that allows stations to overcome this obstacle. He also developed several algorithms for multi-link devices that increase their throughput, both with and without interference. The results have been published in 13 papers, including five articles in Q1 journals.

During his time at the Wireless Networks Lab, Ilya has achieved significant scientific progress. His dissertation presents only a fraction of his results — he has also investigated mechanisms other than multi-link operation. He has many accomplishments: he has published 10 scientific papers in top-quartile journals, won second place in the All-Russian competition “Science of the Future – Science of the Young”, and he has worked on several grants from the Russian Science Foundation. I should add that he is a member of the international group developing the Wi-Fi technology standards, and he has presented some of his thesis results there. I believe Ilya has become an accomplished independent scientist, capable of conducting research at a high level.

explains his supervisor, Evgeny Khorov.

On September 17, the dissertation council at MIPT (Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology) awarded Ilya Levitsky the PhD in Technical Sciences. The council members noted the practical focus of his work and his deep understanding of the intricacies of Wi-Fi technology.

We sincerely congratulate Ilya Levitsky on this achievement and wish him further success!
